Kaylene Peoples is a producer, composer, arranger, conductor, jazz flautist, and vocalist. As well, she plays a variety of other musical instruments including the piano. Her musical styles range from jazz, classical, Broadway, and pop. Many have compared her voice to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, and Nancy Wilson. Her flute playing is reminiscent of Herbie Mann, Hubert Laws, and Dave Valentine.
Kaylene produced and arranged the music on her first album, Rite of Passage (2003), which is a combination of jazz and adult contemporary. Her newest album, which she also produced, entitled All Jazzed Up!, encompasses the complex styles of traditional jazz, New Orleans jazz, and Bossa Nova.
Starting her musical training at nine years old, Kaylene was Who's Who in Music and graduated from UCLA in ethnomusicology and composition. She then completed Master Classes in Film Scoring under the direction of Walter Scharf. As a singer, she has a 5-octave vocal range, and was heavily influenced by Barbra Streisand, Nancy Wilson, and Al Jarreau. She is also an accomplished flautist whose influences come from flute players Hubert Laws and Dave Valentine.
Having toured the United States and Far East as a musician, and having modeled professionally for years, not to mention appearing in films, television, and commercials, Kaylene is definitely no stranger to the entertainment industry.
As a scorewriter, Kaylene has composed and conducted musical scores for a variety of independent films including her own multi-award-winning film Redemption, where she won "Best First Time Director" for the Hollywood Underground Film Festival, and "Grand Prize" at Florida's Goldie Film Awards. Redemption also screened at the New York Film and Video Festival. Kaylene's other notable works include a documentary she produced and directed entitled Uncle Wilber.
